Book Basar in Ireland
On the 26th of November, Meath Partnership hosted its first ‘Sustainable Book Bazar’. This event brought together youth workers and practitioners from across the region to discuss the importance of sustainability, climate action, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and various European green policies.
To ensure a space of ‘shared learning’, practitioners and youth workers had the opportunity to share their own sustainable book recommendations, share links to podcasts, documentaries and blogs that they found beneficial throughout their learning journey.
Attendees of the Book Bazar exploring what books were on offer
In order to host the event sustainably, Meath Partnership found an excellent book selling website called ‘Awesome Books’ and got their hands on books such as ‘The Principles of Sustainability’ by Simon Dresner, ‘Be the Ultimate Friend of the Earth’ by Lucy Siegle, ‘This Changes Everything’ by Naomi Klein and ‘There is No Planet B’ by Mike Breners-Lee. Participants also brought along their own books for exchange. Although connected to the topic of sustainability, the books were wide ranging in topic focus and approach. The aim was to suit all learning types.
The Sustainable Book Bazar was an excellent opportunity for practitioners and youth workers to continue their discussions on sustainability and share their learnings. They had the opportunity to connect and share their thoughts regarding the Green Meme Effect project and explore the game and other materials on offer as a result of the project. The practitioners became equipped with the tools for delivery and learnt about possible approaches for delivery of such materials in their practice.
This Book Bazar will be hosted again in January 2025 as a continued practice and sharing space for the practitioners.
