Nature Clean-Up in Portugal

To celebrate the Portuguese National Sea Day, BioLiving organized a “green” action with a local school and municipality to protect a natural aquatic reserve: Reserva Natural Local do Estuário do Douro (located in Vila Nova de Gaia, north of Portugal).

With the combined efforts of students, families and teachers from Colégio da Areosa, the hard-working group collected around 120kg of marine litter from the sand of the reserve, on the Atlantic ocean coast area. It was interesting to notice that the most common item collected was wipes, which made us reflect on the impact of our daily choices.

Throughout the morning, the participants were curious about all the wildlife treasures they found in the beach which motivated them even more to clean the beach and protect their habitat!

The action ended with a small social gathering for our volunteers, which included a delicious homemade cake shared by one of the families and an opportunity for BioLiving to further present them #GreenMemeEffect and its main outputs produced, such as Green Info Cards and Green Stickers.
